American Taekwondo Association

                                  has come to BAKERSFIELD, CA!

Karate for KidsThe American Taekwondo Association (ATA), founded in 1969 by Grandmaster H. U. Lee, has become a proven leader in the martial arts community. With over 1,500 schools and clubs nationwide, a membership of over 250,000, over 14,000 Black Belts and over 3,000 Certified Instructors, the ATA is now the largest centralized American martial arts organization in the country. The ATA has also enjoyed international acceptance, in over 20 countries with over 300,000 students world-wide. The Songahm Taekwondo Federation (STF) and the World Traditional Taekwondo Union (WTTU) are all international divisions of the ATA.  All three organizations are headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Our motto at ATA Bakersfield is “…experience the difference...”  Unlike most martial arts organizations, the ATA has a comprehensive martial arts curriculum. This means our students and instructors never stop learning. We cater programs to the individual and we offer something for everyone from three (3) to 103+ years of age. Also, various special ability programs are available so everyone, no matter what age or ability, whomever has the desire to learn, may participate.

With nearly 40 years of developmental experience, the ATA creates and implements its own programs to help maintain autonomy from all other martial arts organizations. The ATA is a fully self-contained organization, supporting its own programs, its own tournaments and the testing of its students. This autonomy helps the ATA maintain the highest levels of success in the martial arts field.

We train the instructors to properly represent the ATA in each school. They learn that they are the source of excitement, motivation and encouragement to the students and we help our instructors understand their role as model students. Using tradition as part of the training, all students learn the formality and the basic history of martial arts. From the moment they enter the school, new students understand that discipline is part of the training. Students pass on what they teach and through repetition, encouragement and hard work, they learn that they too can become an inspirational teacher and mentor.

Our Mission

Our goal is to inspire all members to achieve Black Belt Excellence by providing the following three elements:

1. A comprehensive martial arts curriculum
2. Highly skilled and motivated instructors
3. A state-of-the-art martial arts training facility
